Stephen Carr is a unique force in the music industry, with a sound and style that stem from a deep connection to sound system culture and an extensive collection of speakers. His distinctive sound has significantly influenced and shaped drum and bass and jungle music, inspiring a new generation of artists.

His signature impact is deeply imprinted across various eras of drum and bass. From creating some of the most iconic soundtracks for the legendary Blue Note Sunday Sessions to being among the first jungle artists to explore the now-popular halftime style, he has released music on several of the genre's most defining labels. His diverse, dub-inspired productions can be found on labels such as 31 Records, Certificate 18, Metalheadz, V, Reinforced, Dispatch, Violence, Rupture, Exit, Commercial Suicide, C.I.A., Photek Productions, Lion Dub International, Chronic, Ingredients, and many more. Digital's unmistakable sonic signature resonates consistently and clearly throughout this movement.

With over 140 productions to his name, his influence on the drum and bass genre is undeniable. Groundbreaking tracks like "Spacefunk," "Gateman," "Deadline," "Waterhouse Dub," and the powerful collaboration "Phantom Force" with comrade Spirit R.I.P. have all changed the game. Digital's raw, rolling, roots-inspired sound continues to be a staple for selectors from all corners of the music scene.

Digital's ever-prolific Function Records imprint continues to grow year after year, featuring events and releases from himself and like-minded artists such as Outrage, DJ Crystl, Kiljoy, Charla Green, Tim Clay, Mad Vibes, Seba, and Olski.

Throughout his career, Digital has always operated on his own terms, continuously creating and evolving his sound. His music is a testament to his journey, reflecting his roots, guiding direction, and unwavering commitment to the dance. His beats are designed not for trends or profiles but for big sound systems and immersive experiences where the bass reverberates deeply through the dancefloor. With almost 30 years in the industry, Digital remains one of the most respected and renowned figures in the world of jungle music.

Function Records

Function Records, a Drum and Bass/Jungle label, was established in 1996 by Digital & Brillo from Timeless Recordings, with the primary goal of providing a home for Digital's unique music. Digital reflects, "Although I have recorded for many labels, including Metalheadz, Reinforced, Exit, 31 Recordings, Creative Source, and Photek Productions, with over 140 releases to my name, it was never easy to get my music signed because I didn't quite fit in with the scene's flow. Fortunately, my first releases, 'Touch Me' and 'Spacefunk', did well, which might explain why DJs were patient enough to keep listening." (Digital, 2021)

Function Records has proudly signed music from a range of talented artists, including Spirit, Drumsound & Bassline Smith, Total Science, Kiljoy, Tango & Ratty, Outrage, and Calibre & Jet Li. The label has also featured remixes from renowned artists such as S.P.Y., Dub Phizix, Om Unit, J. Kenzo, Benny Page, Need For Mirrors, and Pendulum. What excites us most is discovering new talent, which is why Digital has consistently offered guidance to emerging artists in the scene. Notable names like Amit, Outrage, Sonic & Silver, and Concord Dawn are all products of his mentorship. Outrage states, "The genuine, selfless mentoring that Digital has provided me over the years has significantly contributed to my artistic development and progress in music. His compassion for helping others has inspired my motivation to educate and support the next generation." On that note, keep an ear out for some incredible Jungle tracks from our new artist, Tim Clay—a 30-year-old Hardcore, Rave, and Jungle enthusiast from Camberley with music forthcoming on Reinforced, Repertoire, and N4 Records. https://www.instagram.com/timclay_music/.

In 2020, Function Records had the honour of collaborating with www.eq50.co.uk on their mentorship program. EQ50 states, "The mentorship will address the gender imbalance in D&B by pairing each mentee with representatives from Critical Music, Function Records, Ram Records, Shogun Audio, and V Recordings." Function Records selected Charla Green from Sheffield due to her impressive versatility across various genres. Charla and Digital's collaboration has resulted in a well-received track titled 'On The Grind', which is part of DrumnBass Arena's 25 Year series and culminated in Charla Green releasing two EPs for Function. https://www.instagram.com/charlagreenuk/

Blackeye MC Biography

RUPTURE / AKO / FUNCTION

Heavily influenced by hip hop, Pop, funk, soul, jazz and reggae and dub, Blackeye uses his knowledge of music to craft his art. Inclined to deliver his deep vocals, not on top of the music as a major focal point, but with a complimentary approach, Blackeye exudes presence enough to touch the music with his deep, soulful tones.

Over the last couple of decades, while developing his skills on the circuit, be it small intimate gigs or pirate stations, Blackeye has amassed some prime residencies over the years, as well as a lengthy outing with a weekly show on Life FM in the early 2000s.

Blackeye was now starting to take centre stage before teaming up with Double O and Mantra to host the formidable Rupture jungle events, fast becoming the voice of the night. His tireless drive and passion for the music has seen bookings for Blackeye coming in thick and fast taking him to events up and down the country and beyond to international regard.

Working regularly with many of the scenes pioneers such as Digital & Spirit, Seba, Stretch and label events such as Rupture, Technicality, AKO, Hardware and Metalheadz. Blackeye has crafted his own niche, playing in his own lane to secure the well-earned trust of DJs who can expect Blackeye to enhance any set he hosts.
